The particular geography of the land, with its difficult coastline and high mountains, enabled Moroccos Arab and Berber populations to maintain their independence for a long time. In fact the Berber culture has been long-standing and remarkably robust in the face of foreign invaders, including the Romans, the Arabs and France during colonial days.
